Hey Michal, I do not think a sink tip will work for a skating mouse, It will just pull it under too quickly. Here in nz we use a heavy wieght forward floating line and if the leader does not turn over nicely it does not matter too much as once you have done a couple of strips the leader is straight. Also I normaly mend downstream before stripping to get the mouse realy moving.
All the best.
Mike.

The fly has very good balance in size of all its components, and a well thought out colour that mix well

One thing you forgot to mention in your excellent article is that trying to load a reel with playful cats in the house makes things much trickier!!! ;-)

I hired a guide for the San Juan last year. We went out in his boat. He had a bunch of polypropylene rope in it. I figured it was for the anchor. Nope. He said "I'm going to make some strike indicators" and while we were on the river, he hacked off a piece of rope, went through a bunch of steps of rubbing it on a piece of velcro to frizz it out, tied it in some fashion to the leader, and there we were! We fished all day with those indicators.

I'm glad I came across this article because I couldn't remember how to tie it on, and your O-ring solution looks good. I'm going to give it a try and fish the Frying Pan, colorado next week.

Hi Rolandas,

Can you please tell me where you found your map of Kola? I am looking for a detailed (1:50 000 or less) of the Kola peninsula, because we are planning to do a trekking there. Here in the Netherlands I cannot find one.

Your information would be of great help to me, thanks in advance!

Perhaps a small green glass bead or a set of beads in each end superglued and held together with mono burned down to the glass bead to hold it in. More realism and green transparency when the light shines through. I'm going tot ake my G-string nut to the bead store and insure a perfect fit. Good on ya!

I was pesonally hoping for the site that Ripley mentioned at the last summit.
But probably that´s out of question. :D

Hi everybody,

I am happy you lik the fly, I hope your local fish like it also.

Joe, I did not try the fly with another material then yarn. I use yarn because it is made of many thin strings. It is smooth, shiny and very easy to work with. If you want you may try with floss or some kind of poly yarn or other material which are sold for wings, may be they will works too.

I wish you all the best!

Sincerely,

Rado

Anonymous,

People posting unjustified critical comments anonymously disgust me even more!
If you have an opinion be man enough to put your name behind it!

PS: Love the Che lighter and would have found an Adolf lighter even more hilarious.

nice pattern. i tied it, when i first read this article a few months ago. today was its day, seatrouts are hunting but no take.... not even my all time favourit "the pattegris" could get their interest. there were thousands of sandeels
in the water and i tried "the strange christmas tree" - second cast, hand over hand stripped - first fish ! two other trouts take it in the next 30min after i fished other patterns for two and a half hour. - nice result.....

what would be a suitable replacement for the yellow antron yarn? I can only find antron dubbing here in the states.

thanks

thanks Alex I thought about shooting heads but need to avoid any connections unless really necessary
Sarunas-I'll use the line for surface mouse patterns. How do you think if the sink tip would pull it under the surface? That is tempting option to get a sink tip 'cause there will be big bunny bugs in use as well and sink tip could do the job for both methods
Thank you guys

Hi Martin,

I have booked my vacation, I could move it (hopefully), but I have always found it to be a great event in Odense, and would be happy with the way it has been done in the past.

Either way look forward to seeing all of you again, where ever that might be.

Paul

Sudden silence, huh? ;-)

I have looked into some hostels in the Assens and Middelfart area, and most seem to be booked. The one in Assens doesn't have one single bed available in the weekend we need it!

But the owner is trying to help me find something else. It's either that or move the summit to another weekend.

What say you? Have you all booked your vacation, or can we push it to one weekend earlier or later?

Martin

Jerry,

Yes, Rado's caddis is an excellent imitation, and certainly worth trying.

Regarding the reprinting of the article, you'd have to ask Radoslav himself, but the general rule here on GFF is that we don't reprint other people's stuff, and we prefer if they don't reprint our's. The web has enough unoriginal material floating round already, and repeating what others have already published once is not something, which we endorse. We would greatly prefer to see something new and yet unpublished on your site.

That caddis larva was so realistic and so simple that even I could create it. I would love to put that article in my blog if you would grant me permission. I would be most happy to give you full credit for writing it. My site at Troutu.com has a link to GFF.

Howdy,
If sinking line is acceptable for you then try SA Wet Tip Express
Its running line is not thin, but it casts like a rocket  I have a red one (450grains) for my 10wt rod- perfect for long cast with huge flies :P

Christopher,

Going for sea run browns in the ocean is something very Danish, which mainly takes place in the Baltic sea and the local Danish belts and sounds. It's my impression that a lot of this fishing has to do with the shallow, brackish waters we have, and my impression is that other places that have sea running browns - like the UK and Ireland - have very little fishing for these fish in the ocean.

This might have to do with the salinity, the way the fish feed, the depth or whatnot. I don't know. My guess would be that going for the sea runs in the estuaries or in fjords and bays with fresh water outlets would be the way to attack it. We're not allowed to fish in the estuaries, but fish do concentrate where there are spawning streams nearby.

Hope this helps you - and let us know how you do.

Martin

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
