Hi there T.L.,

Thanks for the info it will really help and I will put your suggestion together. Since my original post and searching thru the tips on this sight I put togther this leader all connected with surgeon's knots:

20 - 36"
16 - 24"
14 - 18"
10 - 10"
8 - 10"
4 - 10"
= 9 ft.

What type of fishing would you consider this good for?

Also, I'm assuming from your post that after the swivel I connect the appropriate tippet of my choice.

Thanks again,

MJP

Great article Jan, buzzers look really well tied, I'll look forward to trying them. Mike

ashbee,

Print the article and take it to a fishing tackle shop or flyshop and just say "I want all this!" and point to the material's list. Wrap the whole thing with the print and you're set!

Your boyfriend will love you endlessly and kiss you more for that! ;-)

Very similar fly in orange color with spectra flash dubbing body has caught a lot of sea trout especially in the beginning of the season. It has been very popular in group of Czech flyfishers till the pink pig comes :-)

I agree that our fly's have become overboard. I think there are flies for fishing and flies for hobby (consuming time, like that Canadian winter.) I enjoy taking my time at the vise, never wanted to be a production tyer. The average tier like myself, I cannot tie elaborate patterns anywho, so I enjoy keeping things simple.

Shannon,

I guess you mean the XS reels?
I never tried or even handled the Snowbee, but as far as I can see they are cartridge reels, with one spool and exchangeable cartridges, which is a system I personally never liked. I have seen it on Leeda and Scierra reels and it looks much better on paper than it is in real life!

But as I said: no personal experience with the Snowbee's, so I can't really judge.

Would someone with creditability email and tell me what the fishing is like in Mid- September?
I am a guide in Florida but will be on a once in a life time trip to Honolulu, I would very much like to book a trip.

[quote:bdbc6f0c0e="Glenn Parkin"]t.z. I have been tying for a year, one day I hope to be half as good as you. Those are really the best flies I have ever seen. You do some remarkable work[/quote:bdbc6f0c0e]

bah humbug (even so you compliment sounds nice) .... I tie OK, there is real good and innovative people out there ... just keep looking

I learned a lot by watching the Oliver Edwwards DVD`s - check them out. Brilliant stuff and I promise ... you will turn out very good flies in no time.

So, what do you think of the Snowbee XS series? It it worthy of consideration?

Hi George,

Yes, I use very small amount of dubbing in the original fly. The tier in the video, Fishigan, use much more then me, but it is not wrong if he has good results with the fly tied in his way.

Good luck!

Very impressive fly. One question. How much hare's ear do you use? In your pictures it looks like you use very little hares ear dubbing. In the video made online the tier use a lot of dubbing. Did the online video use too much dubbing, or the correct amount?

Another great idea from the thinking mans fly tyer ! Keep it up Jan.

I had the patagonia deep wading jacket (the old style with the velcro pockets and 3 D rings)
It's not often i have something that's so good I'd consider it essential, but this was.
The new ones with zips looks cheap and flimsy so I'm hoping I can still replace mine having "lost" it sometime over the last 6 months (poor me!)

This late afternoon I had very interesting discussion with local dealer of Orvis tackle. According to his info Whitinng decided to stop producing and selling Spey hackles because only a small number of flyfishermen need this material. Probabbly the biggest seller of Whiting Spey hackle has been Go Fishing from Odense :-) So there is probabbly problems with Withing too. This company finds Spey hackels as a minor and not interesting product and it seems that only salmon pink colour is requested by flytyers. Honestly who needs different colours?

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
